My girlfriend and I enjoyed a weekend here while planning hikes and day trips into Joshua Tree. We loved the design and comfort of our room and the common area, and wished we could have stayed for a week! The pools truly are amazing, and no one could escape being rejuvenated by the desert and the hot springs. But most of all Rhoni and Christina are the absolute best hosts imaginable. They welcomed us warmly and assisted us with our trip but were never intrusive, its like they read our mind of when we needed something and when we just wanted to relax and do our own thing. It’s not just a great place to stay when in the area, I will seek out a return as a destination.

This little spa is situated up on a hill overlooking the working class town of Desert Hot Springs and is perfect for couples who want to relax in a very private setting. The pool and hot tub were spectacular after we spent our days walking around the summit of Mount San Jacinto and Joshua Tree Park. The rooms are minimalist in style and are clean, comfortable and reminiscent of what I imagine the Palm Springs area looked like in the 1950s. The option to cook a meal in the kitchen or out on the deck where a communal gas grill is available to guests was a welcome change from eating out every night.

The special part of this hotel are its two owners. They are wonderful and attentive hosts who gave us coffee cake in our room and delicious drinks while we sat pool side – all complimentary. We met and befriended other guests and came to the realization that “birds of a feather” really do flock here – perhaps the desire to get away from kitschy Palm Springs for an alternative resort is part of its allure.

I cannot give the place 5 stars because it simply cannot offer the same amenities that one can find in a major hotel, but that being said, my girlfriend cited this place as one of the highlights of our trip to Southern California where we stayed at resorts twice the price…

Pick this place as your home away from home outside the throng of tourist traps in Palm Springs.

Sagewater is right near Joshua Tree National Park for great hiking. What could be better than returning to a hot mineral soak after a day hiking?
